SECTION B – COMPREHENSION
Instruction: Read the passage carefully and then answer the following questions based on it.
The Earth is enveloped by a blanket of air known as the atmosphere. This protective layer extends hundreds of kilometers above the planet. However, the composition of the atmosphere changes with altitude. Beyond a particular height, humans cannot survive because the air becomes too thin to breathe.
Around eighty kilometers above ground, the air becomes too sparse to support aircraft. Further up is a unique layer called the Heaviside layer. Certain radio waves reflect off this layer and return to Earth, much like a ball bouncing back off a wall. This phenomenon enables radio broadcasts to travel across vast distances, including oceans and continents.
Unfortunately, this layer is sensitive to specific types of storms. When disturbed, radio transmissions become unclear, producing background static and interruptions in sound quality.
